And BFX was there!
We spent five jam-packed days immersing ourselves in workshops and lectures and screenings and well... all things animation. Oh, did we mention that BFX's very own Justin Horne designed this year's logo?
Kunjanimation forms part of the "France-South Africa Seasons 2012 & 2013" and one of the main purposes of the festival is to share knowledge and strengthen our ties with the industry abroad. So there were plenty of French delegates around to check out our industry and local talent.

The V&A Waterfront's Cinema Nouvea hosted daily screenings of both international and local feature films, short films and commercial productions. The highlight of which was the South African premiere of the long awaited Adventures in Zambezia produced by Cape Town-based Triggerfish. A must-see! Watch the trailer here.
Another special treat was to be a part of a select audience for the South African premiere of the highly acclaimed Le Tableau (The Painting), presented by its director Jean-Francois Languionie who generously answered questions after the screening.
Every day was filled with talks and workshops about many various topics related to the animation industry. From The value of VFX with Blackginger's Hilton Treves, to a Character Rigging workshop with Judd Simantov from Naughty Dog.

Already, there was more than enough to keep our brains buzzing with information and inspiration, but most valuable was the Gobelins French Animation School's series of lectures and workshops in Character Animation. It was presented by Dreamworks animator Alexandre Heboyan, who worked on features such as Kung Fu Panda and Monsters vs Aliens. He presented an approach to 3D character animation that is widely used in feature animation production, addressing crucial concepts for making a character believable, while still being flexible to make the most of the time available.

It was an amazing week of learning, networking, and entertainment. So, a huge, big thank you to all the sponsors of Kunjanimation, to Bladeworks for sending us and most importantly to Daniel Snaddon who made it all happen.
Make sure you don't miss the next one!
